We have been sending emails out and encouraging people to join the vision for 2009, as we take the TACO initiative global. Maybe you know someone that might want to become a Territorial TACO Coordinator for their Salvation Army territory? Maybe you could jump on board and run a TACO Trivia Night in 2009.

Territorial TACO Coordinators

I have been sending some emails out recently, because we're looking for some Territorial TACO Coordinators. Here's the deal:
We want to run TACO Trivia Nights around the Globe. Within each Territory of The Salvation Army we need a Coordinator who can encourage people to run TACO Nights, help facilitate the admin required and just promote the idea around the whole Territory.

I'm dreaming of having Territorial TACO Coordinators around many Countries in the First World. We could raise thousands of dollars to help train Cadets overseas. This is above and beyond our Salvation Army appeals, and beyond our regular giving.

Oh by the way, lots of people have been reaching this site via 'Google' because they have been searching for Trivia Questions. Nice.

TACO Trivia is Going Global

Well, this year the TACO Trivia Nights went really well in the Australia Southern Territory - 10 venues, $8,500 raised for Salvation Army Training Colleges overseas...

Next year, we are wanting other Territories to run their own TACO Trivia Nights, raising much needed funds to train cadets overseas. So spread the word.

Some things we are looking to do in the near future are:
* Create a large collection of Trivia Questions found on this blog to help with running a Trivia Night
* Help you with running your own TACO Trivia Night
* Share some of the vision of where TACO Trivia Funds are allocated
* Update the blog to be user-friendly for people right around the world

Awesome year!

Well, we have raised unofficially over $8,500 from ten venues around Australia this year. A big thank you to all the guys that helped. Next year is going to happen, as one of the new cadets takes on the TACO challenge. I'm going to focus on trying to take the TACO concept global and see if other Training College's and Territories will run with the TACO idea, and raise heaps of money for Training Cadets overseas.

You know there are about 1,000 new cadets every year in The Salvation Army. The General wants to make that 1,500. Bring it on.

Successful nights!

Well, here's another update from the TACO arena. Last Saturday we had three venues: Mooroolbark (VIC), Ingle Farm (SA) and Perth Fortress (WA). They each had a great night and here's a quick preview:
* Mooroolbark had a great turnout of about 80 people and raised over $900. Thank Carolyn and others for all your hard work!
* Ingle Farm raised over $700 and on the night auctioned off an 'Air Guitar' and an 'Imaginary Friend'. That's a cool way to raise some cash and keep the expenses down! Thanks Paul for your commitment to the cause.
* Perth Fortress raised a whopping $1,100 and Cadet Gareth got the Youth Group to serve on the night. Thanks mate!

So the TACO initiative is going awesome. We have two more venues left in 2008:
Packenham (4th Oct) and Bentleigh (11th Oct).

So far if my calculations are correct we have raised about: $7360. How cool is that?

Also, some breaking news. Our first TACO Trivia Night is happening outside Australia, at Etobicoke Temple in Toronto on Jan 24th. Thanks to Vangi Court for catching the vision! TACO is going Global!

5 Venues Down: The update...

Well five venues have happened, and they were a great success!
On Saturday 13th September, we had two TACO Trivia Nights happen, one at the Training College (Melbourne), and the other at South Barwon Corps.
Cadet Aaron Stobie led the troops at South Barwon, amongst others (Karyn, Jackie, Sarah, etc..). They had 40 people or so, and raised over $700! What an awesome effort!

At the Training College we had a whopping 90 people, coming from nearby Corps/Outposts (Melbourne 614, Reserviour, Collingwood, and plenty of Training College staff, Cadets and Friends). We raised close to $1,500!

Do you know, there are waiting lists for cadets in some overseas Training College's? Do you know that most Territories in The Salvation Army are not financially self-sufficient? It's time to flip the tables when it comes to financial inequality in our world...

TACO Trivia Nights are fulfilling a part of that vision. So far we've raised about $4,600 over five venues with the TACO initiative. Praise God.

3 Venues down! An Update...

On Saturday night, we had three venues hosting TACO Trivia Nights. One at Wyndham City (VIC), Altona (VIC) and Darwin (NT).

We have raised in excess of $2,500 in just these three events! What an amazing result!

A big thanks to Les Porter and Judith Sutcliffe at Wyndham, Shaun Featherston at Altona, Peter Wood and the Burgan family at Darwin for taking on the organising of these venues. Also, thanks to those who have given so generously to the cause of supporting Cadets and Training College's in developing Countries.

This Saturday 13th, we have the Australia Southern Territory TRAINING COLLEGE and SOUTH BARWIN Corps hosting TACO Trivia Nights. We hope for another big success and exciting nights of fellowship together.

Can't afford a Cadet?

Commissioner Vic Poke spoke recently to cadets here in the Australia Southern Territory Training College, and shared how God had blessed them with an increased excitement about the number of interested people wanting to enter into training in Sweden (Europe). Then he made a passing comment about not being able to afford to train them all.

This is what drives the TACO initiative. The Salvation Army needs well equipped and passionate leaders, who are trained in environments helpful to achieve this end. When you hear stories of cadets not having money to enter training college, or hear an Indonesian cadet only recieves a small bowl of rice for dinner each night, or a cadet is unable to complete their study because they don't have computer access... it gives you a drive to do something. Well, that's what we're doing.

Some exciting news on the TACO Trivia scene.

Old El Paso have agreed to sponsor the TACO Trivia Nights with a donation of plenty of TACO Shells and Salsa to cover all the venues that are organised.

Things are happening on the TACO Trivia scene. We aim to raise lots of money for cadets overseas, including primarily the Indonesian Training College.

TACO Trivia Nights: A Big Vision

It's tough to go from 2 TACO Trivia Nights last year to 12. People don't always understand the vision and passion we have. Some places are so busy. Other places find it hard to find a date to lock in. Good news though, there have been a few corps putting their hands up.

We have had positive responses from a few places that wish to host a TACO Night.

It's not as hard as you think. Just find a date around September sometime (maybe even late August or early October) and choose a venue.

We are aiming hard to have events right around The Australia Southern Territory...

Each night will on average raise around the $1,000 mark (maybe more, maybe less), and so potentially we will raise over $15,000 for Cadet's overseas, and for Training College facilities in Third World Countries.

The Training College is Melbourne will provide you with Trivia Questions, the ins and outs of how to run the night, we'll provide ALL the advertising... Too easy.

If geographically possible we will send out Cadets to help on the night!

Why bother raising the money?

In the Training College in Melbourne facilities are good. Great in fact, when you compare them to Training College's in Third World Countries. We complain when the billiard table has a scratch on it, yet some of these other Training facilities lack the bare essentials.

The Territorial TACO Team are passionate about thinking beyond ourselves, and our own comfortability. We want to sow blessing into those from other countries who have it harder than us. By raising money through the TACO Trivia Nights we can put money where it's needed most.

It's not good enough that there is a waiting list of cadets in some Third World Countries. It's not good enough that a cadet can lose their chance to learn and grow because they don't have a good enough bed to sleep on!

Choose to host a TACO Trivia Night. You won't regret it, and God will bless you for it!!

Running a Night: Easier than you think

Running a TACO Trivia Night is easier than you think! The "Territorial TACO Team" will provide you with all the Trivia questions and answers. We will also provide you with all the advertising you will need, with good quality fliers, posters, etc. We will also hopefully advertise through OnFire and Warcry Magazines.

All you need to do at this point is three things:
1. Decide to say YES to hosting a TACO Trivia Night in September 08
2. Decide who will be the contact person for this night
3. Lock in a DATE before the end of March!!!

TACO Trivia Nights... Your Venue? Your help...

Will you host a TACO Trivia Night in your community? September 2008, in The Australia Southern Territory...

We need local Salvation Army Corps and other centres to host a TACO Trivia Night. TACO stand for Train A Cadet Overseas, and we are looking to raise much needed funds for Training Colleges' overseas, primarily the Indonesian Salvation Army Training College.

Do you live in Victoria? South Australia? Northern Territory? Tasmania? Western Australia? You may have a community ready for a great night of tasty TACO's and tricky Trivia.

We provide the Trivia questions. We provide the Advertising. We provide a little Handbook for helping run a TACO Trivia Night. It's Easy.
